Hi Guys!
Sorry for the lack of blog posts recently, I have been super busy with college apps. Actually, on the topic of college apps, there has been some interesting essay prompts. So I was thinking I might share some of my college essays with you guys in the future, once I have submitted all of my applications.
But as for now, I just wanted to let you know that I am still here, and I hope to be posting more in the future from now on! And also I have a lot of cool things coming! You might have noticed that I haven't been uploading very many poems to the "My Poetry" page recently. This is for a good reason. It's because I am working on putting together my own book of poetry. And I don't want to post all of my poetry on my website that will be put into my book. But nonetheless, it is exciting! And I hope that once it is published (or self-published in this case) that you will check it out! I'm super stoked about it, and can't wait for you guys to see it.
I also wanted to remind you guys to keep posting your poetry. Within the last month or two, we have been getting a surge of posts, which is amazing. You guys are so talented -- seriously! I love reading all of the poems you guys post, it's super fun for me. It's also very cool to see that my website is getting some use after all and that its purpose is being fulfilled.
Lastly, I wanted to share a poem. I think it's relevant to what a lot of us are going through right now, and an important message. It's called "Someday I'll Love Ocean Vuong" by Ocean Vuong. Hope you enjoy it!
Someday I'll Love Ocean Vuong
Ocean, don’t be afraid.
The end of the road is so far ahead
it is already behind us.
Don’t worry. Your father is only your father
until one of you forgets. Like how the spine
won’t remember its wings
no matter how many times our knees
kiss the pavement. Ocean,
are you listening? The most beautiful part
of your body is wherever
your mother's shadow falls.
Here's the house with childhood
whittled down to a single red trip wire.
Don't worry. Just call it horizon
& you'll never reach it.
Here's today. Jump. I promise it's not
a lifeboat. Here's the man
whose arms are wide enough to gather
your leaving. & here the moment,
just after the lights go out, when you can still see
the faint torch between his legs.
How you use it again & again
to find your own hands.
You asked for a second chance
& are given a mouth to empty out of.
Don't be afraid, the gunfire
is only the sound of people
trying to live a little longer
& failing. Ocean. Ocean —
get up. The most beautiful part of your body
is where it's headed. & remember,
loneliness is still time spent
with the world. Here's
the room with everyone in it.
Your dead friends passing
through you like wind
through a wind chime. Here's a desk
with the gimp leg & a brick
to make it last. Yes, here's a room
so warm & blood-close,
I swear, you will wake —
& mistake these walls
for skin.
Hehe I too have been busy with common apps and agreed some of the prompts are actually really fun to write XD Lovely poem 'loneliness is still time spent with the world.' is such a beautiful line
